Anti-perspirant

Excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis is a common disorder which can be cured. Certain reports suggest the use of anti-perspirant around the world to treat such conditions well. It is often recommended to try out antiperspirants before opting for other conservative measures. In fact, an anti-perspirant can help to improve the situation of a hyperhidrosis patient.

Today’s market offer a broad range of anti-perspirant products that can provide effective cure to facial sweating, underarm sweating, sweaty hands, forehead sweating, sweating on feet and back. You can also find antiperspirants in diverse intensities for diverse degrees of sweat problems. This makes it easier for the people to pick the most suitable anti-perspirant depending on their own condition. Therefore, you can find one as well.

Why do we sweat?

Usually the body temperature is in the balance- i.e. the heat that enters the body remains the same as the heat going out. But, if the input of heat increases then the balance tends to shift and in turn become hot. In order to re-establish this heat equilibrium the body requires increasing the heat output. This results in perspiration or sweat. Sweating can even occur in the emotional situations as and when a person becomes embarrassed or nervous.

In fact every cell present in the body can draw in a particular amount of the water. Therefore, eventually, the water concentrations-inside and outside of the cells- reach the equilibrium. When that happens, the water within the cell starts to pass back out of the cell through the process of osmosis, and the swelling of the cell goes down. This is the reason why people have to re-use the anti-perspirant.

For those people who are suffering from excessive sweating or hyperhydrosis, the aluminum chloride concentrations can prolong swelling and can ultimately shrink the sweat glands, decreasing the total amount of sweat that it can produce.

Antiperspirant or Deodorant

Most people think that deodorants and antiperspirants are same. Though, they aren’t. An antiperspirant typically works by closing, clogging or blocking the pores with the most powerful astringents like aluminum salts so that they can’t release the sweat.

The antiperspirant minimize perspiration by means of controlling the flow of the underarm sweat and to cover the body odor. On the other hand, deodorants prevent the odor by using perfumes and also by minimizing the levels of the underarm bacteria.

The deodorants basically work by neutralizing the odor of the sweat and the antiseptic action against the bacteria. The deodorants are more preferable as they don’t interfere with perspiration.

Normally over-the-counter antiperspirant products might include active ingredient concentration that can be anywhere from 10 to 25 percent. According to the standards set by the Food and Drug Association most over the counter antiperspirants should not contain above 15 to 25 percent of the active ingredients. The concentration of the ingredients can also depend on the type of the active ingredient used.

Those people who suffer from hyperhidrosis or excessive underarm sweating, there are several prescription antiperspirant products containing higher concentrations than those of the over the counter antiperspirant products.
